Study Ways to Face the Challenges of Seasonal Tourism: Applying to Marsa Matrouh

Abstract

Marsa Matrouh Governorate suffers from the phenomenon of seasonal tourism, as tourists flock to the governorate in the summer, which represents the peak of the tourist season due to the dependence on the pattern of beach tourism. While the tourist season remains low in numbers for the rest of the year, in a way that is not commensurate with the nature of the components of the governorate's tourist attractions. Therefore, the study aims to promote tourism in the governorate throughout the year by activating multiple tourism patterns that fit the natural and human attractions of the governorate, and then increase the number of tourists and tourist nights and eliminate the phenomenon of seasonality of tourism in the governorate. Through the theoretical and field study of the current state of the tourism season in the governorate and the opinions of experts and tourists surveyed, the study reached several recommendations, the most important of which are: Activating new tourism patterns such as special event tourism and desert car rally tourism, promoting root tourism and social tourism with Arab countries, activating and promoting heritage tourism, especially crafts, traditional industries and Bedouin arts, holding festivals and exhibitions during the low tourist season, such as the dates festival and the olive festival, promote tourism programs for Matrouh Governorate that combine multiple tourism patterns, activating the role of environmental tourist guide and desert guide to promote safari and eco-tourism in Matrouh Governorate, advertising and promotion in foreign tourist markets that correspond to the components of the governorate's attractions.
