The role of local community in preserving the intangible heritage in the new valley governorate and how to exploit it for tourism

Abstract

The intangible cultural heritage is considered important part of peoples' history and culture, as it is the main component in shaping the personality and enhancing the national identity of the people. The New Valley Governorate is one of the governorates that contains different elements of intangible heritage that expresses its authenticity and history, in the meanwhile it  represents very distinct tourism product such as folklore, customs, traditions, folk literature, events, festivals and other elements of its intangible heritage. This study aims at evaluating the role of the local community in preserving the intangible heritage in the new valley governorate as well as  the role that community participation can play to preserve it.  The study revealed that there is a  great motivation for the local community to participate in preserving their intangible heritage the study also revealed that there is a great necessity for involving The  community  in preserving heritage and expanding the scope of volunteer work.
