middle Egypt. Hermopolis Magna encompasses remains of the ancient Egyptian, Greek, Roman and Coptic civilizations. It also stands as a witness of the cultural interaction between the Egyptian and the Greek and especially Ptolemaic art, language, religion and also customs and traditions. This city acted as the melting pot of traditions as well as timeless heritage practices such as the festival of the god Thoth, god of wisdom, knowledge, arithmetic and magic. Its tangible and intangible cultural heritage speaks of multicultural elements that once enriched this community.
