Abstract

This paper focuses on the Coptic collection at the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization (NMEC) in Al-Fustat، Cairo and how to utilize it to attract more local، regional، and international tourists to it. The NMEC is the most recent، touristic destination in Egypt open to the public. It represents a turning point in the history of contemporary museums in Egypt due to holding significant cultural، scientific، educational، recreational، economical facilities. As well، it holds valuable collections of Egyptian cultural heritage through ages، including the Coptic collection. It is used in education، scientific research and exhibitions. The exhibitions whether permanent or temporary، no doubt aim to attract diverse audiences with different interests like tourists، students، or researchers، ... The question arises: Does the Coptic collection at the NMEC adequately represents the Coptic cultural production in a way that can attract more audiences to the museum، especially the Coptic audience? And does the Coptic collection harmonize with other Egyptian cultural collections or not? So، this paper will try to answer these questions and to set out solutions، proposals، and recommendations to address these shortcomings in order to achieve increased tourist attraction to the museum.
