Strategies for developing desert tourism in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia

Abstract

This study intention on explores the means of developing desert tourism in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Desert tourism is a type of tourism that takes place in arid desert regions, where tourists come to explore the desert environment and learn about the cultural and historical heritage of these areas. Deserts are characterized by their vast spaces and diverse natural landscapes, such as sand dunes, oases, and unique rock formations. Desert tourism also includes various adventure activities such as safari trips, camel riding, and camping under the open sky. The descriptive-analytical method was adopted to examine the current state of desert tourism in Saudi Arabia and the means of its development. The study found that Saudi Arabia is among the leading countries that have focused on desert tourism by extending infrastructure and superstructure to desert regions and establishing several cities in various deserts, such as NEOM city, to attract tourists to these areas. The research also revealed that numerous tourism activities are practiced in Saudi deserts, such as rallies, camping, sports, safari trips, sandboarding, and other various recreational and sports activities.
