Abstract

This paper studies one rare commemorative golden Dinār struck in Egypt (al-Fusṭāṭ). The Dinār is dated in (214 H), the time of his brother the Caliph al-Maʾmūn, and it bears the name of Abū Isḥāq Muḥammad ibn Hārūn al-Rashīd, before taking over the Abbassid Caliphate in (218 H) and known as al-Muʿtaṣim bi 'llah. This Dinār is archaeological and historical evidence to the victory of Abū Isḥāq on the outlaws of the Caliphate from al- Qaisiyah and al-Yamāniayah tribes in Egypt in (214 H), the same year that the Dinār was struck in it. This dinar was issued to commemorate the victory of Abū Isḥāq on the outlaws of the Caliphate from al- Qaisiyah and al-Yamāniayah tribes in Egypt in (214 A.H).
