Abstract

This research examines the burial site of Prince Ibrahim Gamal El-Din, son of Princess Jamila Fadhila Hanem, who died in 1305 AH / 1887 AD. She ordered its construction next to the Omar Ibn Al-Farid Mosque at the foot of the Mokattam Mountain. The burial dome consists of two rooms for the funeral residence. One of them, located at the western end of the northwestern façade, consists of two rooms and a bathroom. The other, located at the northern end of the northwestern façade, consists of two rooms, in addition to a burial chamber. Attached to the northern end of the northwestern façade of the dome is a fountain with a single window. It is thus considered a funerary structure with charitable facilities attached as an ongoing charity for the deceased. There are also a number of newly constructed rooms. The burial dome consists of a base and two platforms, bearing a headstone opposite it, on which are engraved in relief in Thuluth and Nasta'liq scripts, verses from the Qur'an and a collection of verses praising the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace. In addition to the written decorations, the dome also includes many plant and geometric motifs, in addition to decorative and architectural elements. A sword emblem was found in relief on the second platform on the northwest side.
